Dear SAE 550 Class Members-- The homework for Case Study #11 is really easy! All that you have to do is to tell me your opinion about the future impact of each of the FOLs, based on what you've learned from this case study. And then give me two different examples that support or substantiate your opinion. These examples can come from the news, from magazines, from your work, or from past experiences. Unfortunately, many students have trouble understanding this homework assignment, because of the simplicity of the assignment. Here's a couple of mistakes that students made in prior semesters: (1) DO NOT analyze the NPR, CWA, or "Blueprint" like you did for prior homework assignments. The information in this case study is not for analysis in your Homework #10 assignment. Instead, make substantiated predictions for the future impact on the FOLs. For each FOL: Stay the same? Become less of an influence on system architecting? More of an influence? BUT WAIT-- THERE'S MORE! You have to provide some evidence to support your predictions! (2) Make sure that you have at least 11 different bullets!!! For each of the five primary FOLs, TWO different analyses that support your prediction. For any ONE of the so-called "additiona" FOLs, one prediction and one analysis that supports that prediction. (3) You can earn extra-credit for this homework assignment by proposing a "new" (not used in your prior homework assignments!) FOL that you believe will be more influential in the future, plus some evidence to support your prediction. Dr. Elliot Axelband axelband@rand.org axelband@usc.edu Ken Cureton (TA) cureton@usc.edu
